Book's Description

Shiko and the Lion Heart: A Story of Courage A Shiko's World Adventure from Mount Kenya — Ages 8–12 Meet Shiko — a curious, science-loving girl from Daiga village on the slopes of Mount Kenya who can build a working rainwater garden from recycled bottles but freezes at the thought of talking about it in front of people.

The night before her school science fair, Shiko's stomach is full of "weaver birds"— fluttering, twisting, never still. That's when her grandmother, Shosh, pulls her close and tells her about a lion cub who couldn't roar.

The cub was the fastest, cleverest hunter on the mountain — until it was time to open her mouth, and nothing came out but a whisper. Through her grandmother's story, Shiko learns the cub's three secrets to finding her voice: simama wima (stand tall), pumua (breathe deep), and then — let it out.

By the next afternoon, wobbly-voiced but determined, Shiko stands before the crowd at the fair and discovers that courage was never about not being scared.
