Book's Description

What drives an ordinary boy from the creeks of the Niger Delta to become one of the most feared militant commanders in Nigeria, and what does it take to reinvent himself afterward? Shoot At Sight: The Life and Legacy of Bibopere Ajube, is a powerful African biography that takes readers deep into the heart of the Niger Delta conflict, one of the most significant chapters in contemporary Nigerian history.

Born into an Ijaw fishing community devastated by environmental degradation, poverty, and the consequences of oil extraction, Bibopere Ajube grew up witnessing the stark contrast between the immense oil wealth flowing from his homeland and the hardship endured by its people.

As frustrations across the region intensified, he emerged as the legendary "Shoot At Sight," a Western Fringe Commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and one of the movement's influential "Big Five." Set against the backdrop of oil politics in Nigeria, resource control struggles, and the Niger Delta militancy movement, this gripping Nigerian biography explores the forces that shaped a generation of young men who believed armed resistance was the only path to justice.

But this is more than a story of conflict and rebellion. It is the story of resilience, leadership, transformation, and redemption. It chronicles the remarkable journey of a man who moved from the frontlines of the Niger Delta crisis to a life dedicated to influence, development, and legacy.

Through triumphs, failures, controversies, and personal reinvention, Bibopere Ajube's life offers profound lessons on survival, purpose, and the power of change.

Raw, honest, and deeply human, **Shoot At Sight** provides a rare insider's perspective on the Niger Delta struggle while illuminating the personal story behind one of the region's most compelling figures.

Whether you are interested in Nigerian political history, African leadership stories, Niger Delta history, peacebuilding, or inspiring biographies of transformation, this book offers an unforgettable journey through conflict, courage, and the enduring pursuit of a better future.

I am still reading this awesome story. But I had to pause to give this review. I followed the Niger Delta struggle closely back then. It was a turbulent period, and many people lost their lives before the Amnesty Programe was introduced. I'm glad that Chief Bibopere Ajube is among the few who made meaningful use of the opportunity provided by the government through the amnesty initiative.** I am impressed by all he has achieved for the Niger Delta and for the nation, particularly in the area of national security. His journey is both inspiring and commendable. Kudos to the author for capturing such an important story so thoughtfully. This is an impressive piece of work.
